Math Tournament at Sagamore Elementary, January 23, 2016

Last year sign-in started at 8:30am.

Give yourself extra time to deal with crowded neighborhood parking. Parents do not need to stick around for the morning individual rounds. Those students not in the Team event were done at 10:30. Team members were done at 12-12:30 pm.

Test Formats

There is an individual session for 3rd to 5th graders that includes two sessions held in classrooms: concepts & computation (30 min) and problem-solving (30 min). Parents are not allowed to watch. There is then a Team Ciphering event (with audience welcome, 45 min) in the auditorium. The cipher round is limited to teams, at most two 5-student teams per school, rather than the best individuals. There is only one level of ciphering, so it is effectively limited to 4th and 5th grade. These are word problems with multiple steps to solve.
Some tests emphasize speed, and others emphasize accuracy and knowledge.
