- Being active is an important part of a life of wellness. It doesn’t need to be structured exercise at a gym or a scheduled sport to be activity. Being active can include doing chores, going for a leisurely walk or hike, swinging on the swings, or climbing a tree. Most of all, seek activities you enjoy!
- Strive to make activity a part of every day, for about an hour total. Experiment with different types of activity. Discover the ways you like to move and be active, and make it a regular and enjoyable part of your life. Find out whether it is more fun for you to be active with groups, on your own, or a little of both. Be adventurous!

- Intentionally focus on positive, believable statements about yourself like, “I’m a valuable person who deserves love and kindness.”
- Communicate with your family in positive ways. One example is to use the “HUG” form of communicating. When a family member speaks:
- Hear what the person is saying
- Understand what they are trying to communicate. If you don’t understand, ask questions and seek to clarify.
- Guess what the person is trying to say, to make sure you’re getting it right. “So what you’re saying is…”
- Say positive things about other people and to other people, to help them think positively about themselves. You can be truthful, but still focus on strengths and say things in a positive way.
